Scab Referees Should Be Banned

So any football fan who has watched this NFL season thus far has seen the difference between professional NFL Refs and people who are not. The Replacement Refs or as I like to call them the "Scab" Refs are people who either did not have the experience yet to be an NFL Ref or couldn't cut it and have worked at Division II, III or Pee-Wee League Football games. This past week several coaches were fined and several more are under review for "disrespecting officials" during the game or making comments about the terrible officiating in post game press conferences. Lets remember that coaches are paid to win, and when you lose because you have amateurs making lousy calls or sometimes not making any calls I would think they would have the right to be pissed about that. The media keeps putting out these articles that say "Well we may not like the Replacement Refs but while they are here we have to respect them and let them do there jobs and so should the coaches...

The Childishness of a Two Party System

Sometimes I think about what the distant future will be like and I picture a teenager taking 9th grade history asking his teacher the following  question about this time in our history. Teen- "So let me get this straight the U.S. used to have a system with two major parties that disagreed with each other to the point where they couldn't move forward on anything because the whole point was to disagree and block the other party from doing anything positive?"     Teacher: "Yes that is basically what they did back then" Teen "Well pardon my language but that is fucking retarded"     Teacher: "Yes that is completely fucking retarded and we can say those words here in the future because we are not influenced by religions anymore and we can speak to each other like adults and swear if the conversation warrants it, and in this case 'Fucking Retarded' sums up the two-party political system correctly" Yes I know I'm a dreamer to t...

The Decline of Western Politics

Yes, I know politics can be a boring subject but it is an election year and seeing all of the bullshit has me really thinking about our broken system. It is to big of a mess to point towards one thing and say, "fix that, and you fix the problem". That is why I've decided to put some fuel back into this blog and I'm going to start a series of entries on political issues that I see and what I think possible solutions to fix these problems might be. The main thing I have to make clear is that to fix these problems you would have to make major fundamental changes to our political system. Do I think that it is likely that our government would make these sweeping changes? No, because people who have power and money do not freely go about making reforms that would take away their money and their power. So basically these posts will be a 'daydream' if you will. I really think that when people talk about this kind of stuff they think in the boundaries of what the s...

Guns Don't Kill People, People Blah Blah Blah

So in the wake of the movie theater massacre in Colorado I've been thinking a lot about gun control and how things like this happen in this country. I would first like to say I am not hardcore left or right on this issue. I think the NRA are a bunch of thug assholes that do more to damage the reputation of good gun owners then they do to protect people's rights. On the other hand I do not think people should be disallowed the right to have guns. Personally I do not own a gun and I've only shot a beebe gun and a 22 in my life. I do not hunt and I just never really got into guns. To each their own though and I do respect people who hunt or who are enthusiasts of guns. Now with all of that background information on my personal gun habits I would like to get back to this shooting and some of the arguments I've heard come from people on gun control after it happened. First I would like to say that the old saying "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" ...

Hating the Yankee's for the Wrong Reasons

In all of American Sports there is probably no other team that is hated quite as much as the New York Yankee's. Believe me I've been a fan since I was 5 or 6 and people will let you know they hate the Yankees. This is understandable because people in general hate other people's success. Unless your a fan of that team then you obviously are not going to like them and may even say negative things about them, that is part of sports. Rivalry is great and I wouldn't trade it for the world but I do have one gripe that I have had since the late 1990's when the Yankees started winning The World Series again, and that is people who say the Yankees buy their rings and other teams would win with the Yankee's payroll. This has always been a very weak argument and has been dis-proven time and time again yet casual sports fans, Boston Red Sox fans, and other baseball fans alike will always say stupid shit like "Of course the Yankees have all those rings they bought them ...

The Wire: A Deep Show

Not all of my blog posts will be about some big topic that I want to give my opinion on. For instance this post is about a show that I just finished watching called "The Wire". Many of you may have already watched it or at least heard of it. It was a television show on HBO from 2002-2008. When I first heard about the show I always had the impression that it was a black show that was about inner city gang violence. So when it originally aired I did not watch it. So a year or two ago I kept hearing people talk about how good that show was and how it was one of the best shows ever on television. I finally decided to watch it and it took awhile but I have now finished the show. The Wire is really not about gangs or police, it is about a city, the city of Baltimore. As someone that considers himself a writer I have to say that this is probably one of the most well written shows in the history of television. The series has you follow the characters from the first season which...

Healthcare: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

Well at the time I write this the Supreme Court of the United States in what was a surprising move to many people upheld the Individual Mandate and other contested parts of the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obama-care) as being Constitutional. It was a surprise to me, for sure, because the Supreme Court has really become a partisan hand of the two main political parties and has even gone as far as really stretching or ignoring the law in recent years. (Citizen's United..District of Columbia vs. Heller). So when Chief Justice and Bush appointed crony John Roberts was the deciding vote it really tells you something. So I guess the point of this post is to put my two cents in on this issue. Do I think this Healthcare Act is the answer to America's horrible healthcare system? Fuck no. Do I think it should be repealed or struck down? Also no. So let me break it down into the standard but usually fun theme of "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly".   The Good Several key ...

Bringing my Blog Back from the Dead

So I was reminded by a friend of mine about this blog I started a year and a half ago. I did not give it the attention it deserved and thus it faded from my memory. Well I've decided that I still have a lot to say on many different topics and this would be a good way to express my thoughts. I know the internet doesn't need another irrelevant blogger asshole but tough shit. So I figured this would be a good introductory post to let you all know what this is about and why I'm blogging again. I plan on following this up with my thoughts on some relevant topics of the day including my first topic which will be on the newly upheld Affordable Health Care Reform Act or Obamacare or whatever you wanna call it. So that will be my first post after this and I will go from there. Thanks to the one or two of you that are reading this and hopefully you will be mildly interested in what I have to say. -Nick
