Guns Don't Kill People, People Blah Blah Blah

So in the wake of the movie theater massacre in Colorado I've been thinking a lot about gun control and how things like this happen in this country. I would first like to say I am not hardcore left or right on this issue. I think the NRA are a bunch of thug assholes that do more to damage the reputation of good gun owners then they do to protect people's rights. On the other hand I do not think people should be disallowed the right to have guns. Personally I do not own a gun and I've only shot a beebe gun and a 22 in my life. I do not hunt and I just never really got into guns. To each their own though and I do respect people who hunt or who are enthusiasts of guns. Now with all of that background information on my personal gun habits I would like to get back to this shooting and some of the arguments I've heard come from people on gun control after it happened. First I would like to say that the old saying "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" ...

Hating the Yankee's for the Wrong Reasons

In all of American Sports there is probably no other team that is hated quite as much as the New York Yankee's. Believe me I've been a fan since I was 5 or 6 and people will let you know they hate the Yankees. This is understandable because people in general hate other people's success. Unless your a fan of that team then you obviously are not going to like them and may even say negative things about them, that is part of sports. Rivalry is great and I wouldn't trade it for the world but I do have one gripe that I have had since the late 1990's when the Yankees started winning The World Series again, and that is people who say the Yankees buy their rings and other teams would win with the Yankee's payroll. This has always been a very weak argument and has been dis-proven time and time again yet casual sports fans, Boston Red Sox fans, and other baseball fans alike will always say stupid shit like "Of course the Yankees have all those rings they bought them ...

The Wire: A Deep Show

Not all of my blog posts will be about some big topic that I want to give my opinion on. For instance this post is about a show that I just finished watching called "The Wire". Many of you may have already watched it or at least heard of it. It was a television show on HBO from 2002-2008. When I first heard about the show I always had the impression that it was a black show that was about inner city gang violence. So when it originally aired I did not watch it. So a year or two ago I kept hearing people talk about how good that show was and how it was one of the best shows ever on television. I finally decided to watch it and it took awhile but I have now finished the show. The Wire is really not about gangs or police, it is about a city, the city of Baltimore. As someone that considers himself a writer I have to say that this is probably one of the most well written shows in the history of television. The series has you follow the characters from the first season which...

Healthcare: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

Well at the time I write this the Supreme Court of the United States in what was a surprising move to many people upheld the Individual Mandate and other contested parts of the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obama-care) as being Constitutional. It was a surprise to me, for sure, because the Supreme Court has really become a partisan hand of the two main political parties and has even gone as far as really stretching or ignoring the law in recent years. (Citizen's United..District of Columbia vs. Heller). So when Chief Justice and Bush appointed crony John Roberts was the deciding vote it really tells you something. So I guess the point of this post is to put my two cents in on this issue. Do I think this Healthcare Act is the answer to America's horrible healthcare system? Fuck no. Do I think it should be repealed or struck down? Also no. So let me break it down into the standard but usually fun theme of "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly".   The Good Several key ...
