Yes folks it is Election Day, mid-term elections that is. A new, New York Governor will be elected, more than likely it will be Andrew Cuomo. He is the very definition of lesser of two evils, when compared to Carl "I’m Very Mad!!!" Paladino.
There are other closer races that may mean more in the whole scheme of things. The big one that I'm keeping my eye on is in Nevada. It seems like the crazy folks that live out there are going to elect Sharon Angle. A nut job religious wacko who is pro-prohibition, and pro murdering her opponent if she loses. Another complete nut job Rand Paul seems likely to win his election. Scary times I guess, but when it comes right down to it, the whole election process and government structure is scary, and flawed.
This leads me to the question that you might be asking if you are reading this. "Nick are you gong to vote today?" My answer is Fuck No!!! I think I learned my lesson last time I voted, when I voted for President Obama, who promised Change, and Hope! He hasn't delivered, he was definitely the better candidate, and he has done some very moderate things to help this country but so far he has been a huge bust. A health care bill without a public option, increasing troop levels in Afghanistan, and flaking out on the whole gay rights issues. That doesn't sound like change to me, it sounds like more of the same shit. Below is an excerpt from my critically acclaimed book "Porn and Tacos: A Biting Social Commentary" (note: It is always good to add the words "critically acclaimed" to any work that you release, even if no one has acclaimed it)
"My story that relates to this chapter comes from how I have personally taken my right to vote thus far in my life. When I was in college I had a professor suggest to us that it was a good idea not to join a political party as a journalist. That way nobody can say that you are covering a certain story, a certain way because of your political affiliation. See Fox news for how this clearly was good advice, even if a Fox news reporter is not a Republican, people will always assume their coverage is slanted, and if you have ever watched it you know it clearly is.
So with that in mind I never voted until this last election in 2008. I registered as an Independent because like I have stated in this chapter I think the party system is corrupt, and ignorant. Now on the ballot I filled out, there were approximately seven different elections I was voting on, one being the Presidential election. I believe I voted for five Democrats, and Two Republicans. I did this because I did not look at what party they were from, I read up on their records, and their opponents then I made a choice based on that.
Now this brings me to one of my favorite George Carlin rants of all time, and it involves voting. “I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.”
Unfortunately I did not follow Carlin’s advice in 2008. I thought that Barack Obama was going to be the best President ever. I did not realize that he probably was just another lesser of two evils, which so far he has been. I have been so disappointed by his lack of doing anything of substance that unless he turns it around, and does some good I will probably never vote again.
Because old George had it right, I do not want to be responsible for electing anyone because inevitably they are just going to bring this country even farther down into the shitter. I am however an optimist at heart, and would like to believe that Obama could be different, but I guess only time will tell."
the only problem i have with this statement is labeling rand paul a religious nutjob whacko. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rand_Paul#Political_views that is a good list on his views. there is nothing whacked about him. if returning to the values that made this country is whacko then what the hell do you call perpetuating this shit fucked system we have now? sane? is that sanity? does being a constituionalist and quoting the founding fatehrs make u a religous nutjob right wing extremist? the only scary thing about this is that people vote for the same two parties over and over and over and some fuckin how never ask themselves if they actually have a choice in the matter. people are fuckin stupid, and thats scary.

ReplyDeleteYeah, Obama, hasn't really given the Republicans a Fuck You, yet. Which is disappointing. This may be turning around though, they are saying there were more jobs created in October this year than October last year.
